Finasteride

£7.00

Finasteride is the active ingredient for hair loss treatment, now available in generic form as it’s own product.

Finasteride has strong clinical evidence of effectiveness in the treatment of male pattern baldness, though not currently available on the NHS.

How does Finasteride work?

Finasteride combats the effects of DHT on hair follicles. In this sense, it works similarly to a DHT Blocker.

As a treatment for male pattern baldness, Finasteride is available in the form of tablets. This treatment works better if used early in the process of hair loss development, and is much less effective when hair loss is well established.

Are there any side effects?

It’s important to be aware of the potential side effects of Propecia/Finasteride which may be uncommon or rare but can be significant if they do occur:

  • Decreased libido
  • Erectile dysfunction (possibly persistent)
  • Breast tenderness and enlargement (possibly contributing to male breast cancer, any breast changes should be reported to your GP immediately)

In most people these side effects resolve with continued treatment or after stopping Finasteride. Those who are planning to father a child should consider stopping treatment.
