Hundreds of UK holiday goers require a fit to fly test this summer

Find out if you need to take a test before your holidays

Although many countries have now lifted their travel restrictions, several popular European holiday destinations still require a negative PCR or antigen test if travellers are either unvaccinated, or if their most recent vaccine was more than nine months ago. There are also still several countries that require a PCR or antigen test regardless of your vaccination status. Researching your destination country’s restrictions can be confusing, but a great place to start is the government’s travel advice site. Read on to find out more about who still requires a pre-travel fit to fly test.

Those travelling to restricted countries

There are 62 countries that still require a fit to fly test, regardless of your vaccination status. These countries include the Bahamas, the British Virgin Islands, Columbia, India, Japan, Chile, and New Zealand. To check if you require a test before travelling to your destination, check the entry requirements on the government website.

Unvaccinated adults and children

While less than 20% of the population are completely unvaccinated, those who have only had one vaccination, or those who have had their last vaccine more than nine months ago or less than 7 days ago, will still need a negative PCR or antigen test in order to visit several popular holiday destinations such as Spain, France and the Azores in Portugal. This applies to children above the age of 12 also, who may not have been fully vaccinated. Usually, those who need a fit to fly test will need to take a PCR within 72 hours of departure or an antigen test within 48 hours of departure.

The travel restrictions for my destination mention Schengen, what is that?

The Schengen area is made up of 26 European countries who have removed all passport and border controls between them. Travel between these countries is not restricted in any way if you are from one of these countries. If you are travelling from the UK however, travel restrictions will still apply to you, as we are not part of this collective.

How do I book a fit to fly test?

Once you have established that you require a pre-departure test, you can book an in clinic test at any of our testing sites. We offer a child only testing option for parents who only require tests for their teenage children and a bundle for both adults and children. Click below to book your PCR or antigen test today.

Don’t need a Full PCR to Travel?

Some destinations don’t require a full PCR test in order to travel, but still require a “fit to fly” antigen (lateral flow) test to be completed and a certificate to be provided pre-departure. If your destination only requires the Antigen test, the good news is that this is a faster and cheaper process to follow. Please contact your travel provider if you are unsure about whether this test is accepted.
